Why Choose Newborn Cloth Diapers?
Newborn diapers are specifically designed for babies in the first weeks or months of life.
Parents often choose newborn sizing because:
- A better fit for smaller babies (especially under 10 lbs)
- Less bulk between tiny legs
- Easier to change during frequent newborn changes
- A more comfortable option for cloth from birth
Some families use newborn diapers full time, part time or choose a different system. If you aren't sure that's to be expected, no worries! You can visit our Cloth 101 section to learn more about other options.
Newborn stage 6-14lbs
Newborn babies are tiny, sensitive, and changed often. Our newborn cloth diapers are designed to provide a trim, comfortable fit during those early weeks — when fit matters most and frequent changes are part of everyday life.
Umbilical Cord Snap-down
Unlike many diaper styles, newborn fitted diapers provide maximum comfort right from birth. The umbilical cord snap down holds materials away from the bellybutton areas to prevent irritation.
Soft, flexible fit.
Gentle elastics and thoughtful shaping allow for movement without gaps, digging, or compression leaks.
All over absorbency.
Our newborn fitted cloth diapers provide full absorbency from waist to leg, helping prevent leaks and blowouts.
Easy to use snap setting & buildable absorbency
Our fitted newborn diapers include 3 triple layer inserts. This setup provides reliable protection that grows with your newborn. Adjustable for daytime use, naps, and overnights — without folding, stuffing or guesswork. The single snap setting is straight forward for quick and easy diaper changes.
Handcrafted with premium materials
Each Lilly & Frank fitted diaper is sewn in small batches using high-quality, natural fibers and thoughtfully selected designer knits. These materials are chosen for softness, durability, and beauty — creating diapers that feel as good as they perform.
How to Put a Newborn Cloth Diaper On
- Lift your baby's bottom
- Slide the diaper underneath
- Pull the inserts up between baby's legs.
- Pull the front of the diaper up and fasten
- Tuck leg elastics into the underwear line
Do I need a cover?
Fitted diapers are highly absorbent on their own. Many families choose to use them without a cover at home or outside during warmer months, changing once the diaper feels damp.
Covers are typically used for:
- Naps and bedtime
- Travel or outings
- Families who prefer a fully waterproof system throughout the day
Do You Need Newborn Diapers?
Not every family chooses newborn sizing.
You may prefer newborn diapers if:
- You’re planning to cloth diaper from birth
- You’re expecting a smaller baby
- You want the best possible early fit
You may choose to skip them if:
- You’re starting cloth later
- You prefer one-size systems from the beginning
There’s no single “right” choice, only what works best for your family. You can view some of the other options parents choose such as AI2 and our one size & petite fitted options.
