How To

Put The Diaper On The Baby

  • Lift you baby's bottom and place the open diaper underneath. Make sure the back of the diaper is just above the top of the baby's bum.
  • Pull the insert up through baby's leg making sure it's laying flat and comfortable. You can fan the insert if you like to create a more trim tummy area.
  • Pull the diaper shell up through baby's legs and lay flat on the tummy.
  • Pull the left diaper wing up and over the belly snapping onto the shell snugly.
  • Pull the right wing up and snap onto the shell and then crossing over the left wing if need be snapping securely into place.
  • Check legs for gaps, the leg elastics should be firmly against baby's legs with no gaps but should not be digging in.

Fold Over Rise

  • Lift you baby's bottom and place the open diaper underneath. Make sure the back of the diaper is just above the top of the baby's bum.
  • Pull the insert up through baby's leg making sure it's laying flat and comfortable. You can fan the insert if you like to create a more trim tummy area. You may also need to fold the top of the insert down so that's it's not too long.
  • Pull the diaper shell up through baby's legs and fold over to expose the top row of snaps.  The fold over should be at least 1-3 inches wide to ensure a short enough rise on smaller babies.
  • Pull the left diaper wing up and over the belly snapping onto the fold over rise snaps on the shell snugly.
  • Pull the right wing up and snap onto the fold over rise snaps on the shell and then crossing over the left wing if need be snapping securely into place.
  • Check legs for gaps, the leg elastics should be firmly against baby's legs with no gaps but should not be digging in.
  • Using the fold over rise can take a bit of practice so don't be discouraged if you don't get it on first go. Try again with a larger fold over and play aroud with the snap setting until you find the right fit for you baby.
  • As your baby grows make the fold over smaller and smaller until it's not needed anymore.

Print Topped Booster

Lilly & Frank print top boosters are a really cute way to add extra absorbency to your diaper. The important thing to know is that these boosters must be used a specific way to ensure the best additional absorbency.

 Velour Topped Booster

Velour topper boosters are different from print topped boosters in which they have a velour topping over print. Velour top boosters can go against baby's bottom or used in the sandwich method shown above.

 Wash & Care Instructions

Wash Routine

  • Spray off any waste in to the toilet. *A diaper sprayer is very handy tool to help rinse your diapers thoroughly. You can find out diaper sprayers here. You can collect dirty rinsed diapers in an open pail or hanging wet bag. We recommend leaving diaper pails open to allow for air flow. If you have rinsed your diapers well there should be very little smell.
  • On washing day (we recommend every other day).Place dirty diapers in the washing machine-should be around 12-16 diapers for a full load.
  • PRE-RINSE- run a rise cycle with warm water (no soap) if you don't have a rinse cycle use the quick wash setting warm with no soap.
  • Now that diapers are rinsed add 1oz Beyond Clean to approximately 12 diapers.  You can also use any mainstream detergent that has no fabric softeners but we personally love and recommend Unicorn Baby Beyond Clean.  Choose a heavy wash or soil level with warm water settings(this will provide a good clean with appropriate amount of agitation). No extra rinse needed.
  • If it is NOT a wash day I recommend rinsing all dirty diapers at the end of the day and then placing back into your open pail.

Dry Routine

  • We recommend hanging your diapers to dry. You can do this two ways, first hang to dry and when diapers are almost dry then put your diapers in the dryer on low for 20 minutes to finish drying and fluff OR you can put wet diapers in dryer  first on low for 20 minutes max (this will soften and fluff your diapers).  Remove damp diapers from dryer and then hang or lay flat to finish drying.  I strongly recommend one of these two drying options because continuous exposure to high heat can break down elastics and fade prints.

Natural Fabric Softeners

  • You can use natural plant based fabric softeners such as Unicorn Baby Beyond Soft to keep your diapers super soft and fluffy.  Use 1oz or Beyond Soft for a load of 12-16 diapers.  Some other brands I recommend are Mrs. Meyer's and Seventh Generation-use these in moderation.
  • I do not recommend bleach, Borax or Oxi Clean. These are harsh detergent additives and can breakdown elastics, fade prints and weaken materials.

Stains

  •  I recommend you pause the washing machine once diapers have been in the soapy wash cycle and are thoroughly mixed.  Leave for a few hours for really deep stains.
  • Buncha Farmers makes a great natural stain stick as well. You can apply the stick to any stain directly or make this simple recipe to make your own Buncha spray solution for your diapers. 1 tbsp of buncha farmer shavings (use grater) per I cup of boiling water. Allow to cool, stir and add to spray bottle!  Keep this in your bathroom next to your diaper sprayer-spray directly on the stain then put in wash pail unit you are ready to wash.
  • You can also sun!!  OBV suns beautifully - hang damp, clean diapers out side and sun for a few hours.  Do not leave diapers out in the sun all day - the sun is wonderful but can be harsh and fade prints and colour. The CV or OBV side should be facing sun, not the print side.

Ammonia

Ammonia can happen from time to time form when diapers aren't cleaned thoroughly enough. If ammonia happens here is a strip we recommend.

  •  Beyond Clean Soak. Put clean diapers into the bath tub or washing machine. The washing machine is definitely easier, but you have to have time available to occupy your washer. Using HOT water add 2oz Beyond Clean to the load, swish around let sit for several hours or overnight. Put diapers in washer and run through a hot heavy duty wash with extra rinse and dry as usual. DO NOT use the Sanitize feature as that water is so hot it will damage elastics.
  • If the ammonia is super bad repeat the above process a second time.
