Absorbency

Fitted

  • Fitted diapers have three different materials used to construct the diaper shell. The inside that touches baby's skin is a velour, the hidden middle layer is organic bamboo fleece(OBF) which is an absorbent material and the outside which is either a velour or a printed fabric. Fitted diapers are breathable diapers and absorbent but are not waterproof. Many families have their children to go cover less and change when the outside of the diaper becomes damp. To be complete waterproof we recommend a wool cover.

Hybrid

  • Hybrids are similar to fitteds, except instead of a hidden layer of OBF in the shell it’s poly fleece. The poly-fleece allows the diaper to absorb differently than a fitted diaper as the fleece deflects the liquid back towards the inside of the diaper dispersing the liquid throughout the diaper, rather than saturating through all layers. This allows the outside of the diaper to remain dryer longer. Hybrids are completely breathable but they are not entirely waterproof. Many are able to wear cover less , since the outside does not become immediately damp with a pee. To be completely waterproof we recommend a wool cover.
Each kind of absorbency servers a different purpose. Fitted diapers are the most natural and absorbent, great for naps or long car rides. Hybrid don’t become damp on the outside as quickly as a fitted and are great for day time wear and small outings. Both absorbency can be worn without a cover for a period of time before they become damp. To be completely waterproof we recommend a wool cover.

    Inserts and Boosters

    Inserts

Toddler, One Size, Petite all come with a double layer snap in insert. The insert has 4 layers of heavy organic bamboo fleece topped with matching velour. For each of these sizes a print top booster is optional.

Newborn diapers come with a lay in insert and booster system. Both insert and booster consist of 2 layers of heavy organic bamboo fleece topped with matching velour.

    Boosters

We make two types of booster, print topped and velour topped. The print top has print topping to match you diaper and 2 layers of heavy organic bamboo fleece. Velour topped has matching velour to the inside of your diaper and 2 layers or heavy organic bamboo fleece.

    Materials

    • OBF- Organic Bamboo Fleece - Is the most absorbent materials used in Lilly & Frank diapers. It is a bamboo viscose and organic cotton blend. OBF is the absorbent layers of the insert and the hidden layer in the shell of the fitted diaper absorbency.
    • OBV- Organic Bamboo Velour is a super soft and silky. It is typically a undyed natural cream colour. OBV does change over time, as you wash your diapers you will notice the OBV appearance becoming more towel like, or Sherpa. Sherpa diapers are actually more absorbent than brand new velour! Occasionally, we offer dyed OBV, which provides the opportunity of soft silky OBV in bright beautiful colours. It is a bamboo, organic cotton spandex blend.
    • CV- Cotton Velour. We have our own organic cotton velour colours milled especially for L & F. Cotton velour is the coloured inner velour fabric, it's a blend of 95% organic cotton and 5% spandex.

    Leg Finishes

Lilly & Frank cloth diapers come in a few options of leg finishes.  Classic serged and comfort serged are the most popular. While we do off the option of all 5 leg finishing options through our custom order fabric groups we stock mostly serged and comfort serged to the website. Edge finishings all come down to individual preference, to find out which your prefer I recommend trying one of each.

    Classic Serged

This edge finishing has a complete serged edge finish. It's achieved with a special serger sewing maching that cuts and loops thread around the finished edge.

    Comfort Serged

Comfort serged has a serged tummy panel and wings with a turned leg casing. This creates no thread edge in the leg area for babies with sensitive skin. It's pillowy and soft in the leg area while the serged wings and tummy keep the diaper trim.

    Ruffle Serged

Ruffle serged is the same as comfort serged accept top stitching has been applied to the turned leg area to create a FLAT leg casing. It mimics the look of a classic serged ruffle appearance but has a closed cased leg for optimal softness.

    Lux Turned

This style is sewn to be complete turned and topstitched at the wings and tummy panel. Legs are pillowy soft with no thread exposed on the entire diaper edge.

    Ruffle Turned

This style is sewn to be complete turned and is completely topstitched throughout the entire diaper included the back elastic and leg area. This option gives FLAT soft ruffle legs and back elastics with no thread exposed on the entire diaper edge.
